Course Objective

The basic aim of this course is to transfer evaluation methods of physical properties of soils related to civil engineering by using laboratuary testings. After fundamental definitions have been made, it has been earned to the students that how laboratuary testings are made. It is taking care of students forming an opinion about parameters which will be used in the geotechnical problems. At the end of semester, students’ earnings would have been evaluated by prsenting their laboratuary reports.

Course Content

Introduction-Basic physical properties of soils-Sieve anaysis, hydrometer testing-Specific gravity-Unit weight and relative density of soils-Unconfined compression test-Undrained-unconsolidated triaxial test (UU)-Undrained-consolidated triaxial test (CU)-Shear box test-Permeability test-Compaction test-California bearing capacity test – CBR-Presenting reports and discussions
